  • I Crave Natural Foods, founded in 2012 by local entrepreneurs Rick, Laura and Chris Payant, is a local Ottawa success story. A dedicated gluten-free and peanut free 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility, I Crave Natural Foods has developed a wide range of baked and shelf stable products that consumers in the Ottawa region have come to love.
  • With the recent completion of a newly constructed and expanded bakery, I Crave is now in the position to expand both nationally and internationally with both its branded and co-packed products.

The Canadian Celiac Association is the national voice for people who are adversely affected by gluten, and is dedicated to improving diagnosis and quality of life. Based in Mississauga, Ontario with 28 chapters across the country, its mission includes advocacy, education, research, and support. The GFCP is a voluntary program designed for manufacturers and brand owners committed to producing safe, reliable gluten-free products, allowing brand owners to differentiate their gluten-free products from the increasing clutter of gluten-free claims. The program combines stringent, risk-based gluten-free requirements with the globally recognized food safety management systems which exceed government requirements in both Canada and the United States. It is verified by an annual robust, third-party facility audit process which ensures continued compliance. This prestigious recognition from the CCA could not have been achieved without the collaborative efforts of Enerjive and Smart Starts, and funding accessed through Growing Forward 2 (GF2). Through this investment, we were able to purchase new equipment, receive our GFCP certification, and to also extend the shelf life of our products. Support from GF2 helped us achieve all of these objectives.

This project is funded in part through Growing Forward 2 (GF2), a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The Agricultural Adaptation Council assists in the delivery of the GF2 in Ontario.
